Sherri Carter's oil paintings are best described as “Contemporary Impressionism.” Her style combines influences from the Impressionist and Tonalist art movements. Her elegantlandscapes reveal a deep fondness for the outdoors, and viewers readily identify withthe tranquility depicted in her paintings. They often feel the sun’s warmth on their skin
and hear grasses blowing in the breeze and are frequently captivated by the emotional
qualities in her work. Her inspiration comes from nature, as she creates her initial ideas
en plein air to capture a moment in time. The character of trees, old barns, fragrant
meadows, and flowing streams motivate her passion for painting.
Sherri’s inspiration comes from the works of Andrew Wyeth, Robert Twatchman,
Chauncey Foster Ryder and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. Her paintings represent years
of evolution in style and influence, and her intention is to describe her visual voice to
her viewers and translate the beauty that lies before her in nature.
Sherri has a background in design and received her fine art degree in San Francisco.
She worked at top design firms in San Francisco and Washington DC before embarking
on her fine art career. Even though Sherri is largely a self-taught painter, she has been
fortunate to study with Scott Christensen, John Poon, Matt Smith and Jill Carver.
